Brentwood Photography Group Outings

Overview: Each month the Brentwood Photography Group hosts a themed outing for members to join and take some great shots of places you might not ordinarily get to see.  Past outings have taken us to old churches, abandoned factories, car shows, and small towns around Tennessee and surrounding states.

Jul 22 - Sloss Furnaces, Birmingham, AL

Well, this is one that you don’t want to miss.  If you went with us before in 2011 or 2013 (hard to believe it’s been that long!), then you know how much fun this place is.  An old, shut down steel mill in downtown Birmingham that reminds you of the heyday of heavy industry in our country.  It’s been beautifully preserved and you can wander all over the place.  For you old-timers, they’ve opened up a new area that we haven’t yet seen!  Sloss Furnaces are located at 20 32nd Street North.  The entrance fee is $20 and they’ve asked me to collect the money up front and sign in as one.  You can give me the dough at the AG Expo parking lot.

Google “videos of sloss furnaces” and check out a bunch of different looks.

We’ll meet at 8:30 am at the parking lot of the AG Expo center at the Peytonsville Road/Goose Creek Bypass exit off I-65 just south of the 98 exit for Franklin.  It’s a 2.5 hour drive to our lunch location in Birmingham, another tradition of ours, eating at The Fish Market!  Our reservations are for 11:30 am.  Address is 612 22nd Street South, right downtown.

The furnaces close at 4:00 pm, so we’ll have most of the afternoon to wander around the property and get just that perfect shot.  Or two.  Or a dozen.  Finish up whenever you’d like and you’re on your own to wend your way back home.
